Don’t call it a comeback!

AS YOU KNOW, I HAVEN’T POSTED MUCH LATELY. AND THE REASON IS BECAUSE OF SCHOOL OF COURESE. FOR SOME REASON IT GOT REAL SHAKY AND INTIMIDATING. USUALLY I FALL UNDER THE PRESSURE OF SCHOOL OR SOMETHING AWFUL ALWAYS HAPPENS OR TIME JUST DOESNT PERMIT ME TO ACHIEVE THE WAY THAT I’D LIKE TO. HOWEVER, THIS SEMESTER WENT MUCH DIFFERENTLY. I WAS EXTREMELY DETERMINED. NO MATTER WHAT OBSTACLE GOT IN MY WAY, I WORKED HARD. AFTER I CRIED AND COMPLAIN, ALL THAT THERE WAS LEFT TO DO WAS MY WORK. I MOST DEFINITELY REAPED THE BENEFITS. 2 A’S, 1 A+, 2 A-‘S

JUST DO IT.

ANYWHO, IN THE YEAR OF 2010, I PLAN TO MAKE BIG AND SUCCESFUL MOVES. I ALSO PLAN TO KEEP THAT SAME DETERMINATION AND GRIND MENTALITY APART OF ME BECAUSE THERE IS NO TIME TO BE NONCHALANT ABOUT SUCCESS. SO IN THE NEW YEAR EXPECT MORE INTELLECTUAL AND CREATIVE POSTS FROM ME AND EXPECT TO SEE MY NAME IN SOMEONE’S MAGAZINE IF NOT MY OWN. I AM HERE TO STIMULATE YOUR MIND.

ASPIRE PEOPLE!

More good holiday picks:

These are just a few selections of albums and books that I have recently purchased. If you're into sci-fi love stories, rough&painful coming of age books, soulful and lyrically empowering songs, these just might interest you!

FORGIVENESS.

I felt that I should state my feelings on Chris Brown’s new album and the outstanding number of situations regarding him.

Graffiti surprised me. The first time I heard it, I thought wow this is much different than his first and second albums. But then after several more reviews of the album, I realized that Chris was stepping out of his associated genre and becoming a more edgy singer and a little bit more that R&B. I am happy that Chris is doing this because that is exactly what music is. Music is more than one specific genre. It is universal and untitled.

I am a Chris Brown fan. I don’t like the fact that because I am a girl , people feel as though I should turn my back on him because he was domestically violent against his girlfriend. Sure, what he did was 100% wrong but does that mean we have to all nail him to the cross and crucify him? No it doesn’t.

Just think

When was the last time you did something wrong. Were you forgiven? Forgiveness is liberation of the soul and since none of us are God why must we judge a situation that has nothing to do with us. God forgives. This means that stores should not be blackballing CDs and interviewers should not demean Chris in interviews or attack him for simply smiling.

Why does everyone hate Chris but accept the other trouble makers who are probably doing something even worst, with open arms?

Perhaps it’s reevaluation time.

Chris must understand that humans will be humans and talk about him. The greats and most talented are always ridiculed the most because others will never be as good as them.

The world is intimated by greatness. So all we can do is endure it and allow it to make us more mature and stronger.

Happy Holidays

Well friends it seems as though we have made it through another year. Take a moment and thank god! I am so thankful to be back home amongst friends and family. As much as I hated being snowed in, I loved spending time with my mother.

‘Tis is the season to be thankful and grateful that we are all blessed. I pray that 2010 will be a productive and successful year for everyone. Let’s leave all negativity in 2009 and enter 2010 with a clean slate.

Happy Holidays to all my Black Pearls.

Princess of the Year

The Princess & The Frog is definitely a must see; A comical, captivating and even sentimental classic!
I'd say this is one of the best Disney movies in a long time.
Tiana is a charming and hard working black girl from New Orleans with dreams of having her own restaurant "Tiana's Place"
In the midst of living her dream as well as her father's, Tiana finds love, in the most unexpected place and as a Frog.
Many criticized the movie because Tiana was a frog for most of the movie, but I didn't find it insulting neither did I think it took away from the idea of her being a black princess.
And if you don't trust my opinion, ask the many diverse children who filled the seats with me!

since we gotta be here, let's live

L I F E.
is so interesting! We have our good days, our great days, our bad days and our worst days but I'm so grateful for each and every one of those days that I've been blessed to experience.

Sometimes we just have to accept what is. Everything will not work out the way we want it to. Sure, it's easier said than done because as emotional humans we aren't capable of letting something or someone that we are passionate about go. We want to keep our dreams alive. The key to it all is classification- we must distinguish the dreams that must live from the dreams that have to die. That might be the hardest puzzle to solve. The funny thing is that we have all the pieces.

In my life, I feel like I am getting closer to my dreams. God has put so many important and helpful people into my life this year and I am so thankful. I am actually appreciating this part of college because I am actually learning what I need to know. I have been given the biggest compliments that I have ever received in my life in regards to my writing. Its so funny to me because I have always loved the art of writing and I thought I was pretty good but I never thought I was the best. But I have so many supporters behind me who are giving me a lot of hope and faith.

Thank you everyone who is continuing to support me. I hope one day, you'll see me at the top. But ofcourse, you all will be at the top with me! =]

Who is this pearly smile, almond eyed, honey caramel sensation dripping through your speakers?
Tremaine Aldon Neverson
Hailing from Petersburg, Virginia and first known as the "Prince of VA", Trey Songz has become successful right before our eyes and is now a permanent resident of every girl's heart.
I'm sure you've seen his recent video "Invented Sex" which everyone is now unofficially coining the video to be the sexiest video ever. What do You think?
Whether you like the video or not, you can not deny that Trey is on his way to the top, tip toeing out the shadow of R&B star R. Kelly. In an XXL spread, Trey compared his career to escalator ride while other performers take the elevator. Though it's taking some time for his talent to be completely respected and recognized, in due time Trey Songz will be the next best thing. Very. Very. Soon. ..

IS THIS IT? OR THE BEGINNING?

I was able to see Michael Jackson's "This is It" documentary last night and it was absolutely amazing. Me being a Michael Jackson fan, I was going to love it regardless but I can honestly say that it was great. Everyone will love it.
The documentary, of course showed Jackson in preparation for his upcoming tour, This is It. Viewers were able to follow the method behind Michael's madness. I loved the documentary because it showed Michael on such a personal level. How can anyone deny how much of a spectacular person he was, after watching this movie? Michael's way of thinking was out of this world and completely over the heads of millions. This in my opinion, is why Michael was rediculed, hated, judged and misunderstood at such a disturbing level. No one could wrap their minds around this beautiful artistic soul. His vocals sounded as if it was 1983 and he was recording the Thriller album. His dancing was magnificent- nothing that I have ever seen a 50 year old do in my life. His smile was still big, his heart was still made of gold. He appeared as if he could live for another hundred years. Unfortunately he did not. Though he may not live here physically, Michael's spirit and music will forever live on. Therefore, I encourage all of you to please please please go out and see "This is It"
I promise you will NOT be dissapointed!

Theo Smalling: Oct 23,1987-Oct.26,2009

God always has a plan. A plan that we may not agree with but who are we to disagree with the one who gave us life? A few days ago, God took back what was his. This being Theo Smalling. Theo was a senior at my school, Hampton University and also the captain of the basketball team. Theo was ten credit hours away from receiving his BA diploma. However, Hampton University President, Dr. Harvey, so kindly rewarded Smalling's parents with the BA degree that he would have received.
The young man just turned 22 on last Friday. I still hear the voice of one of my roommates telling me how she met him on that day. She said, "oh I met theo!" "You did!! was he nice?," I asked. She happily responded, "Yes! he shook my hand and smiled while saying hi."
The reason why I was so excited is because we always said to ourselves that he resembeled the character "Goofy". So we gave him that nickname. Therefore, everytime that we saw him, that's what we would say. We loved to see Theo just because he seemed like a great person. In the words of Wendy Williams, he was a "friend in my mind" Rest in Peace, Theo. You will forever be missed!

In the Event of his demise: Ressurecting Tupac Amaru Shakur

This is what I was going to turn into as a celebrity profile for Tupac Shakur, however I am going to resubmit it in a completely different arrangement and I dont want this version to go waste so I thought I'd share it with you all.

“I was cultivated in prison. My embryo was in prison.” These are the chilling words of one of the most complex men to have ever walked the earth. These words would recklessly foreshadow the halted life of Tupac Amaru Shakur. My eyes seemed to be attached to the pain that dwelled in his and at the same time excited to see his living face and hear the existing breath that created his poetic words. It was the 15 year old interview displayed in his documentary, “Tupac: Resurrection”, that captivated me. If only he were here looking back at me, giving me answers to my burning questions. Nevertheless, I can only speculate the method behind Tupac’s lyrical madness.

But before there was this controversial figure, there was an ambitious little boy; a little boy who was born on June 16, 1971 in the state of New York City to a roaring caged panther by the name of Afeni Shakur. This revolutionary child was named after an Inca chief of South America. Tupac Amaru meaning “Shining Serpent” and “Thankful to God” defining his surname, Shakur. At a young age he was introduced to the Black Panther movement and was taught to take a stand and become comprehensive to cultural issues. This young charmer could usually be found in front of the television screen admiring what he called, “the pretend world”. He thought that maybe if he pretended to have a normal family or be a product of wealth, his world would make sense. Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s mother, enrolled him in a theater group in New York where he was able to land his first role as Travis from Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun.” Shakur wanted to be an actor. When he was not consumed with the thoughts of acting, Tupac kept a diary where he would write poetry along with his deepest secrets.

After leaving New York due to his mother’s unemployment and homelessness, his family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. He lived on 3955 Greenmount Avenue, a row home, located just around the corner from the high school that I attended. Tupac referred to Baltimore as “complete ignorance town.” Thought it hurts to hear someone down where I’m from, how can I disagree? He attended Baltimore School for the arts, after a successful audition. At this particular school, Tupac was exposed to a world of talent. He was taught the art of Ballet, Shakespeare, Music, and Theater. He was grateful to have been able to learn this information, but infuriated at the fact that all of his friends in the rundown public schools surrounding Baltimore School for the Arts were not getting this same type of treatment.

Without a doubt, I can say that Tupac was right. Majority of Baltimore City public schools are neglected and lack the funds to make education appealing or accessible to the students. The whole demeanor of the students is different from those from Baltimore School of the Arts. Though I attended one of the best public schools in the city, I remember wishing I went to the school for the arts. I always admired how artistic and devoted the students were to their talents. However, the reality is that the children in these broken communities were not getting the same education as Tupac and that was a huge pill for him to swallow. Nonetheless, it was at Baltimore School for the Arts where he crafted his love for performing arts and began to Rap as he continued to write poems. In his documentary, he said, “All of my raps were poetry. As I wrote, I would rap the words.” Tupac, the artist, was developing. Not only was the artist being created, but his higher way of thinking began to manifest. Tupac did not think like most of his friends. He saw the world in a different light. As I once read by an anonymous author,” in a land of apples; I am faithful to the oranges.” In my opinion, this particular line depicts the mysteriousness of Tupac.

A young Tupac, with a curly high top fade, sat before the interviewee and stated his opinion on high school education. He said, “There should be classes on drugs, sex education, and police brutality. But instead we have classes on gym- physical education.” At an age when most boys indulged in drugs, sex and violence, Tupac wanted to make children aware of these misconceptions of being cool. Finally being able to move from Baltimore to Las Angeles, Tupac had hopes of seeing a new type of life. However, there he realized that Black people every where shared poverty, if they shared nothing else. Moving to California was Tupac’s way of escaping violence however it was in the city of Lost Angels where Tupac grew to be the most violent. “If you’re in hell, how can you live like an angel?” he said while explaining his negative behavior. Tupac was very aware of his actions and admitted several times that he had a “big mouth.” He said, “I thought I was being charming, but I was really being immature.”

Due to the absence of a father figure, Tupac was solely raised by his mother. “My mother is totally brilliant”, he passionately said. Though he admired his mother, he felt that he needed a father figure in his life to shape him into a man. Most boys look for a father figure to teach them and to tell them things that only men can pass down to each other. On the absence of his father, he said, “I would have had more discipline and confidence if I had a father.” I am almost positive that his words and feelings echo the emotions of millions of young males who grew up fatherless. He revealed that since he did not have a father, he felt that he had to act hard. Revealing that because he knew how to cook, sew and clean he appeared as “too soft.” His sensitivity seeped through my television speakers. But possibly he evolved into someone too hard.

As a teenager, Tupac embraced the pimps and drug dealers that gave him the love that he had always longed for. These people were, to him supporters and sponsors. He began to sell drugs with his newly found family and realized that he could get money easily and fast, proving his impoverished childhood lifestyle wrong. However, because he lacked skills in selling drugs, he was simply given money and with this he would help pay bills for his mother and use the rest to his advantage. Tupac had the world in his hands but little did he know, the world was soon to be against him.

It was a woman by the name of Leila Steinberg who worked with “Digital Underground” and discovered Tupac’s talent as a lyricist. She also led poetry classes, where she witnessed Tupac’s heart being poured line by line on paper. He began to work and perform with a local California rapper by the name of “Shock G” whom Tupac gave credit for have giving him a start in the rap industry. After several performances with Shock G, the daughter of Ted Field, Founder of “Interscope Records” had heard Tupac’s mix tape and insisted that he be signed. Like an abandoned balloon, Tupac quickly flew to the top.

Producing conscious lyrics and motivating poetry in his music, Tupac related to his community. The community who, like him, shared what he called, a “Thug Life.” “Thug Life” in Tupac’s striking eyes was a philosophy of life. “Thug Life” did not follow the criminal definition. It was the lifestyle of a prideful underdog who was continuously being overlooked yet strived to be successful. Tupac wanted to bring awareness to the rest of the world that people were in fact living a “Thug Life”. This lifestyle was so far from being filled with criminal intent that Tupac created a “code of Thug Life” of which he enforced non-violence and respect. Unfortunately, he too would be a victim. Tupac stated that it wasn’t until he made a record about police brutality, that he became a victim. In 1991, he filed a 10 million civil law suit against the Oakland Police Department for brutally beating him for jaywalking. Like a game of dominos, Tupac’s luck with the law began to continuously fall. It was in 1994 when Shakur was convicted of attacking a former employer while on the set of a music video. He was sentenced to 15 days in jail. This would be the start of several other encounters in prison and run-ins with the law.

Tupac once explained himself to be a gentleman. He claimed that he loved women. Tupac saw women in two different lights. He felt that someone were queens such as those to whom he would motivate in songs such as “Keep Ya Head”, “ I ain’t mad at cha”, and “Changes”. And then there were those who he called “ho’s” and “hoochies” as heard in songs such as “I get around.” Tupac felt that he had the right to calling some women these names because that would be the way the presented themselves. However, with out a doubt, Tupac knew the difference between the two. He had a huge amount of respect for women such as his mother, sister, Jada Pinkett, Jasmine Guy and even Madonna. But as for the ones who he referred to as in his hit, “I get around”, he did exactly just that- “got around.” Tupac’s engagements with women caused him trouble. Tupac was sentenced to four months in jail for sexual assault for a woman. Though there were two sides of the story in this particular case, Tupac had to complete his 4 month jail time. With all of his legal problems, Tupac was becoming just what his protestors wanted him to be; a thug. Tupac began to develop just as many haters as the amount of his fans. He was unwanted by the politicians who believed that he was tearing the black community down with his violent lyrics and harsh words and by older women who felt that his music completely degraded young women. Not only was he unwanted by these people, but he was hated by east coast music industry due to the “East Coast/West Coast battle.” Many people were out to get Tupac Shakur.

As the weight of the world and enemies began to become a burden, Tupac realized that he would not be on this earth for long. His lyrics and poems reflected his haunting feelings. In his infamous poem, “In the event of my demise”, he says, “I will die before my time/because I feel the shadow’s depth…” It was an alarming premonition but for some reason the world knew he was right. He knew he was right. On September 13, 1996, ironically, an advocate for peace, love, equality and poetry would be violently murdered at the tender age of 25; an age where he remained to be mentally imprisoned- trapped in a world of friends and enemies and of love and hate. This rebellious man was misunderstood and only judged of his actions. But for some reason, I understand him. The more I studied Tupac, the more I was able to see our connection; a connection far deeper than us living in the same the city. We were alike; both finding outlets through poetry to express our deepest thoughts and feelings. Being two different people with the same complex minds, I found that both Tupac and I admire the art of thinking, learning and creating our own philosophies. I am intrigued by his paradoxical way of living. In “Tupac: Resurrection,” he proudly said, “Some people see Tupac as a poet, and some see me as a Thug. I’m a Gemini, I have two sides. “

BLACK CAT.

It's clear to see the pain shine in her glossy eyes.
stained with the tears of which she once cried.

From the way she seductively purrs
to her elongated stretch
the arch in her back
the sharpeness of her claws

living above all laws

She is the epitome
of virtue
of the fight
of the BEST.

Nevertheless, she is love.
underneath that tough skin
she hides a heart that pounds so loud,
she moves to the sound of its beat.

Light on her paws, she pounces from west to east
BLACK CAT
camouflaged with the streets but
her fluorescence leads the night
BLACK CAT
proud of her soft hisses
she knows it's more powerful than a mighty roar.

Walking with confidence
as if she was the ruler of all lands
she personifies wisdom
knowledge and romance

when she passes they all bow
offering her complete reverence
she is a queen.
a planted seed
kissed by God
molded and scolded by oppression
she rises.

she has risen
She lives for the movement
she lives for equality
Black Cat lives
inside of me.

R-E-D.

Is softly brushed against each of her finger nails.
She's worth all the diamonds in Sierra Leone.
Tempting yet modest.
she owns.
She is Red.
Burning with desire and
visibile rage in her eye's
fire...lust pouring out with her tears.
Angelic with a sinful smile.
She's up to no good
but all the while,
she gets under your skin, anxiously waiting
for you to let her in.
she is
Unrequited Love.

Food for thought

I love this poem by Maya Angelou. It has been inducted in my top five poems.
Please enjoy, "A Conceit".

Give me your hand
Make room for me to lead and follow you beyond this rage of poetry.
Let others have the privacy of
touching words and love of loss of love.
For me
Give me your hand

-Maya Angelou

YesterME,YesterYOU,Yesterday

I realized that love was not for me.
I'm tired of thinking about him or where he could be
I'd rather stretch out on sand and feel the waves of the ocean and
listen to The Beatles and disregard Love's notion.

But then it came to me
my heart wanted me
to just see
where you were
- you were still there
with open arms and care

I still love.

YOUNG FOREVER,

This song has to be my favorite by Jay-Z. I feel this way because I think we all wish that we could stay young and youthful. I've caught myself staring at old people in the mall and thinking how would I look at 70?
I then shook my head as if I was waking up from a nightmare. I want to live for another 70 years without grey hair and without the worn hands. But then I thought maybe I should seek the beauty in old age. I thought that old age has a story to tell.
A story consumed with wisdom and knowledge. Perhaps I should look foward to growing old and telling these stories to my grandchildren who will come to me and question what it was like to live in the 90 and early 00's.

Growing old is a blessing. I thank god as much as I can for permitting me to see another morning and night. There are so many people who won't be seeing tomorrow and there are some people who didn't see Today and that is scary. So why complain? Why be afraid of growing old when you're even more afraid of the alternative. This isn't our world it's God's.

So since we gotta be here, let's live...

...OLD.

1 of my faves.

POETIC JUSTICE.

Jus somethin.

Joy comes in the morning
so i've been told.
Love comes in the evening
in the night, in the cold.
Love -never old.
Ressurected
Rebirthed
constantly blooming
I must be invisible
because he sees right through me.
Giving me candid glances, as if he once knew me.
But you my friend are new to me.
Never have I felt
Never may I feel
a feeling so tangible yet soreal
I feel its texture
I hear its heart
but NEVER will i hold it dear to mine
We a A PART!
a part of a puzzle that has lost all of its pieces.

Back II Basics

Lately, I've been listening to

Tupac

Bone Thugs n Harmony

Common

Bob Marley

Stevie Wonder

Michael Jackson

Janet Jackson

I really enjoy listening to these particular artists because I sense feeling of authenticity in their work. Their music is pure and for the most part they convey a deeper message. If you ever come across a song or two by any one of these artists, I think you'll understand what I mean. Or maybe It's just me. I truly feel that I'm ahead of my time but apparently I was supposed to be this age in this year at this moment. Therefore, I continue to listen to the music of the past in away that I construct who I am today.

if that makes any sense.

Back to Basics

I'm taking a break from writing this paper to make a statement.

As I approach my 19th Birthday on the 26th, I see an evolution. I see growth. I've been feeling myself mature and I didn't think it would feel this scary yet exciting. The other day I went to the beach. At night, I enjoyed the sound of the moving waters and the breeze of the crisp air that kissed my cheeks. It felt like a reassurance from God. Maya Angelou once said in a poem, "we will never be as important as the ocean," and she's absolutely right. As the warm sand weighed my feet down, I felt that it symbolized that I belong exactly where I am. Whatever that is going on in my life is supposed to happen.

Latoya Jackson 20/20 interview

Unfortunately, I missed the public airing of the Latoya Jackson interview with Barbara Walters. However my faithful buddy named YouTube had my back. Usually when I listen to Latoya I think to myself what is she talking about? But this time, I sensed a feeling of genuine emotions and the words of a sister who lost a younger brother, a friend and someone who she admired the most.

Hearing, Latoya's account of the Michael Jackson case and the family greiving process was very interesting. A lot of the things she said in regards to the reasons why Michael passed made lots of sense. If you ever get the chance, I think you should check this interview out because for once I can say I whole heartedly agree with Latoya.

The Blueprint 3

THE WAIT IS OVER! UNFORTUNATELY THE "OFFICIAL" RELEASE OF JAY-Z'S 11TH ALBUM WAS NOT VERY EXCITING DESPITE THE AMAZING SHOW HE PUT ON AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN ( ONE OF THE NIGHTS I WISH I WAS STRANDED IN NYC).

THIS CD RELEASE DID NOT BLOW OUR MINDS BECAUSE WEEKS PRIOR TO SEPTEMBER 11TH THE WORLD HAD ALREADY ILLEGALY DOWNLOADED THE ALBUM. I MUST ADMIT I WAS GIVEN THE ALBUM EARLIER IN THE WEEK AND I ABSOLUTELY ADORE IT. I AM A FAN OF REVOLUTIONARY THEMED MUSIC AND INTELLECTUAL SONGS THAT MAKE STATEMENTS. JAY-Z GOES OFF ON THE BLUEPRINT 3 AND THANK HEAVENS BECAUSE IT IS TIME FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW THE TRUTH!

ONCE AGAIN I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING OVERBOARD IN HIS SONG "D.O.A" , WHEN I FIRST HEARD IT BECAUSE THE USE OF THE AUTO TUNE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 20 YEARS NOW SO HOW CAN WE PUT NEW ARTISTS DOWN FOR USING SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN A SUCCESS IN THE PAST. IN THAT CASE WE WOULD HAVE TO MAKE A DEATH OF THE SAMPLE SONGS AND DEATH OF SNAP MUSIC. SOME THINGS WILL NEVER END BECAUSE OF THE DIRECTION THE WORLD IS TAKING US.

I MUST SAY THAT HE DOES MAKE A POINT IN A SENSE THAT HE WANTS TO REVIVE TRUE HIP HOP AND PUT AN END TO THIS FAKE MUSIC THAT BRAINWASHES OUR MINDS 24/7. SADLY JAY, HIP HOP IS DEAD. I DO NOT THINK I HAVE HEARD A TRUE HIP HOP SONGS SINCE THE LATE 90'S/EARLY 00'S.

NOW WHAT WE ARE HEARING IS RAP MUSIC. RAP MEANING TALKING. TALKING MEANING SAYING GIBBERISH OFF A PASSED AROUND BEAT. PASSED AROUND BEAT MEANING THE REDUNDANT SNARE SOUND WE HEARD ON " A MILLI, DIVA, BREAK UP ETC. THEREFORE IF THIS RAP MUSIC MUST GO ON THEN WE NEED SOME REAL HIP HOP ARTISTS TO COME AND TAKE THE STAGE AS WELL. CAN WE ATLEAST COMPROMISE? THOSE WHO WANT THE KNOCK OFFS CAN HAVE THE ARTIFICIALS AND THOSE WHO WANT THE REAL THING CAN GET THE AUTHENTIC. FAIR ENOUGH?

I'VE BEEN FOLLOWING JAY-Z CLOSELY OFF AND ON EVER SINCE THE BLACK ALBUM. ON AMERICAN GANGSTER, I FELL IN LOVE WITH HIS STYLE ONCE AGAIN AND NOW I'M BACK AGAIN ON THE HOV TRAIN. ALL ABOARD. I AM VERY AWARE THAT PEOPLE HAVE THEIR OWN OPINIONS AND MIGHT BELIEVE THAT HIS CD IS POSSIBLY TRASH BUT IF JAY-Z'S ALBUM IS TRASH THEN WHAT DO YOU CALL 'DORROUGH,' 'PLIES,' AND THE MAINSTREAM WEEZY?'

NO DISRESPECT BUT REALLY -JUST ASK YOUR SELF THAT.

LYRICS THAT DO NOT INFORM, EDUCATE NOR INOVATE- #WE OFF THAT.

9/11

Yesterday, September 11, 2009 was a very important day. It was the day that the world woke up and realized that we as Americans, do not live in our own little bubble that isolates us from the rest of the world. Unfortunately millions of people suffered due to pure ignorance and malice. America continues to remember and grieve the loss of all of the 9/11 victims. However, the reality is that we are all victims because this tragic event has effected each and every one of our lives in some way. God Bless America. God Bless the World.

Day 3.

I moved into my new rented home in Hampton,Va with my roommates on Monday, August 31st, 2009. I must say I am very satisfied and pleased with everything. So far, so good. I didn't even cry when my parents left and that's something that I usually do lol because I'm such a family person. But anywho- I didn't cry and I most likely won't. I have grown a stronger liking for the city of Hampton, over the past 2 days because I was able to explore it a little more. School starts next Tuesday. I'm not really bouncing off the wall about that but that is the reason why I'm here.

I also want to shout out my man Trey Songz because I really appreciate the "Ready" album. He really scared me with his LOL =) single. Garbage like that shouldn't be included on such a cd but I guess he had to get commercial. However, I think the cd is great and his vocals has developed more. He's hitting a lot of more highnotes and using his falsetto. Great Job Trey. You've made me proud lol

"Make it one for my baby and one for the road... "

There comes a time when we have to accept things and just let it GO. That sounds so easy however it's the hardest thing for us to do, I know. As I write to you all, I am also writing to myself.

Have you ever heard the phrase, "Let go and Let God?" well that's the basis of my topic. I had a talk with myself last night (like I do every night when I think about everything in the world before I can fall asleep) and I thought there's no need to burden my life with the unnecessary.

I've come to the understanding over the past years that life revolves around patience and faith. They both come hand in hand. To have faith is to have patience and to have patience is to have faith. Get it? Let's see. We all have hopes, dreams , goals and aspirations.

Unfortunately we can't conquer these things over night. I believe that success comes in portions. Therefore, we must be faithful over the little things. We must appreciate the small before we can get to the larger things in life. However, little do we know is that the largest things sometimes come in the smallest packages. Don't worry. God has it all under control.

It's funny because though we think that we can control and make things go this or that way- we absolutely do not. What we are to do is all what God is allowing us to do. So let him do it. Sit back. Enjoy life.

Enjoy the finer things- the things that make you tick. Leave all the stress behind. I promise it'll be worth it.

I Don't Know Much..

I don't have the answers to a lot of things. I think hard for answers and then make my own conclusions. I'm a philosophical type person and I also learn from my own as well as other people's experiences. I learn from history. However, I don't know much about the future.

I like to live by the day. If you are to ask me what I'm going to do tomorrow- I'll let you know the day after. I think a lot. I dream a lot. But I do not know much. I am learning every second. I like trying to solve this puzzle called life. The sad part is that I don't think this is one of those puzzles that can be solved. lol

I Don't Know Much Today but Tomorrow is a different story. . .

I hope this topic isn't too depressing. I just wanted to express what I've been thinking about lately.

I must say the death of MJ really messed up my whole summer. It hit me that very second when they announced he was dead, that death is THAT serious. I mean I always knew death wasn't a joke but it came off as one of those things that you think will miraculously pass you by. But nope. No one's leaving this world alive and that scares me. Any one can die. Good people and Bad people. We come on this earth to live a life that was already predestined for us. This very moment is something that has already been written thousands of years ago for me to do. I hate the fact that we all become so attached to living that we are afraid to die. Why can't the word death be a happy feeling instead of a gloomy one. For some maybe it is. Perhaps it's the fact that we don't know when it's going to happen. So it's like walking on pins and needles and knowing that in any minute our feet will get cut. Also, it's the fact that we all go one by one rather than together. One of our best friend's can go years before we do. Life is crazy and sometimes it's hard to enjoy it when you think about the bittersweet fact that we must die. But then there's the fact that once we die, we live in peace and happiness -that is if we do what's right here on earth. But that's a whole 'nother conversation! I guess we should just live each second as if it is our last. Therefore, we need to live right because though life is long, the decision of where we go to spend our after life is decided quickly.

. MiSS.YoU .MuCH

Goodmorning! What a lovely Sunday!! I just wanted to come on and check in since I have been a little absent. I'll be going back to Virginia in 15 days. Yup a week and a day. WOW time is just gone. All that means is life goes on. Anywho- I'm trying to enjoy these last couple weeks and just spend them with friends and family before I leave.

I was so happy that the whole crew got to go out for the first time in months. Everyone was doing there own thing so we didnt get to do a collective outing in a while. However, on friday we went to the Cheesecake Factory and then to the Den and it was Great! I really missed the times when we did EVERYTHING together. I missed the distinct laughs of those 5 girls. Wow you never realize how much you miss something until its gone. Well I just realized that it's not gone. The fire still burns within our friendship. This summer was just a reality check that we are growing up and are gonna do what we want even if that means doing it alone. However when it comes down to it- it'll always be the crew =]

HOLD FAST TO YOUR DREAMS

L O V E && L I F E

There is not a moment that passes when we think of love. We all want that one person in our lives that will not only be determined to give us the world but will also be the world.

That one person who praises this "woman's work". The one who sweeps us of our feet and makes us forget about all the misery that surrounds us. Well why is he (she) so hard to find? Maybe he (she) doesn't exist. I was always the type of girl who believed in fairytales.

I still do really. However, I think the fairytale stories are becoming rather rare. Therefore perhaps we're creating a person who is perfect. And as we all know there is no such thing as human perfection.

I guess we should love what we have and for the have not's, we must accept what we get and not try to push him away because he's not the full package that we've been dreaming about.

To be clear I am not saying that we must lower our standards. That is the last thing I'd say.

What we should do is accept the good in what we have or will have. Learn to love the imperfections-that is if they are worth loving. If there is someone in our life who is 90% there then there is no reason for us to feel like he's (she's) not good enough. We can not change people. I repeat, WE CAN NOT CHANGE PEOPLE.

That just might be the hardest thing to accept. Oh I know. For some reason I like to think I'm some type of miracle worker but I'm not. This goes both ways. A man or boy ( whichever) can not change who we are as well.

If you have to change someone to the point where they are a complete different person than that person is not for you. Though humans have imperfections -love does not. This means that our love for someone has the capability to love pass the mistakes, the scars- the imperfections.

To love someone is to take him/her for who they truly are. So message for you all is to love with a blind eye and most importantly an open heart.

C O N T R O L

As you may or may not know I am addicted to music. There I said it! I LOVE ALL types of music. I could listen to anything from Frank Sinatra to Beyonce'. I am always looking for old music -mainly to watch and hear it's evolution from the 20's till now. I find it very fascinating. You can actually learn a lot from music and it's diversity.

So anyway last night, I decided to go through all of my father's old tapes and see would I might find. Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 was one of them.
I was really excited to find this tape because when it came out I was barely 1 years old and only heard a few tracks from it such as "Rhythm Nation" and "Love will never do without you".

One of my favorite things to do now that I am older and have an acquired ear for music, is to listen to older music that I didn't pay much attention to when I was younger. So I found my tape player and put the tape in.

From that moment I was taken into a world of social issues and a plead for the people of the world to make a change. After I listened to both side A and B lol I began to listen to her previous album Control.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any better than Rhythm Nation 1814, I was wrong. Control really stuck out to me because of its clear message.

It's time for us to take control over ourselves and our lives. Once we hit that age when we claim that we're legal or "adults", we should be thinking for ourselves and most importantly living for ourselves. I think that it is so interesting how this message was written in the late 80's and it is 2009 and people still need to know this.

Every day I witness people falling into this materialistic hole that leads them to nowhere. We've had this conversation several times before. You know the one where I say, do what you want not what everyone else wants. The greatness of life depends only on how you live it.

This means don't live for your friends, your teachers and even your parents. Make WISE choices. Being in control does not mean being stupid or unreasonable. It also does not mean to shut everyone else's opinion out. The key is to listen to what people have to say and then you think to yourself what is best for you.

We all have our own personal key to life's door. No one else can turn the key for us.

LetitBeMe,

Hello all!

So I wrote this on the way to New York. enjoy.

LetitBeMe.

She cries
Her long lost love has committed to stay away.
She has devoted to live behind the sun.
She believed in life, when love was young
but now it has been shot dead on this cold war's front.
An impossible feeling that one should be content with-lonely & miserable
she rests her head on a rain cloud and covers her body with
sheer wind.
Is this the meaning of feeling free?

Thinking/ Thoughts.

So I was having a conversation with my mother..more like a conversation with myself because she was falling asleep on our bonding time lol but anyway I was just thinking about things and life. I reminisced for a while about my childhood and how I had such a creative soul. If you knew me back then, you would think I would be Beyonce by now because of the way that I would constantly perform MJ songs for my family. I remember when I would create an art show in my room for my parents, perform plays that I wrote for them and sing Celine Dion songs all day in my basement. Then it hit me. This is the type of things that MJ talked about when he asked "Have you seen my childhood?" He couldn't sit back and think of his greatest and most fun times as just being a child. I'm sure he could say things similar to what I have yet in a more serious tone. Therefore, there wasn't that childlike fun that came along with it. It really saddens me to know that one could miss out on a very important stage in life that really creates who you are as an adult. You learn from your childhood experiences. You learn of friendships, joy, innocence, and pure fun. As a child you are not faced with the problems of the world that you will soon be introduced to.

I also asked the reason why Princess Diana died. She died when I was seven years old and the first time I heard of her is when they reminded me for weeks straight that she had passed away. My mother replied "In a car accident was it?"and I concluded,"She was running away from the paparazzi wasn't she?" and my mother replied,"yeah." Wow. I said out loud that I would never want to be apart of the paparazzi or media that rips peoples lives apart. I refuse to be like those blood sucking leeches that feed off of ordinary people's every move. "Stars" are regular people who are more successful. So perhaps we shouldn't call them stars. Do they really shine? I think that once people are taken away from their "normal" lives, automatically the light in them fades when they come face to face with the limelight. I feel that we should applaud each other. How "human" is it to publicize and ridicule people of their wrong doings or of the things that they never did! Why do we feed into such garbage? Normal people live their life much worst starting with the lifestyle of the paparazzi. I have realized that I shouldn't cry or go insane when I meet famous people because at the end of the day, they lye in bed just as I do. Sure that bed might be worth more than my entire home lol but you get the point.
We ALL deserve our privacy at one point.

.The City Winks a Sleepless Eye..

Wow how did I let a week past?!
Well let's see- I went to New York on Saturday for a day trip and what a lovely trip it was. I love seeing the other side of new york. The side that appeals to me. I know that if I were to live there, I wouldn't shopping all day because most likely I wouldn't be able to afford it lol . Therefore, I love to see everyday things like row houses and playgrounds in Chinatown and colleges that are filled with college kids- which half of them are living the poor college kid life like me. I was amazed at the country side scenery of central and yet the sounds of African drums pervading underground through the subway station. This is the life. The true New York life. Maybe one day I'll be able to experience that or maybe it'll just be a town that I constantly visit. who knows!

Music is Love.

Kid Cudi asked, "Is there any love in this world?" Well Cudi I think the answer is plain and simple. No there isn't . Well I'm sorry let me be clear. Yes there is love however we are all scavenging around to find it- it is hidden.

I am a strong believer in music. I've always felt that music is what connects the broken hearts. Music is therapy. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry and most of all it makes you love.

When I turn on the radio today I don't hear the same type of music that my mother heard or that my grandfather plays on his new ipod shuffle. I hear hatred, disrespect and violence. Sure you can say 'Chill Imani- this is old news.' But if this was old news, there would be a change.

Yes I'm more than guilty of snapping my fingers, singing 'everygirl' and bumpin to Gucci Mane. But I honestly don't consider these 'songs' music. Music appeals to my heart. Unfortantely these songs dont have my heart. Sure they have my ear for a bout 3 minutes but immediately it's erased from my mind.

What scares me is the fact that some people truly consider this music. I watch little boys genuinely wish that they could 'be with' everygirl in the world. It frightens me that people are believing what these artists are saying. Whatever happened to "My Cherie Amour" okay Drake tried with "Best I ever Had" maybe..but you have to admit saying that I'm the F*****G Best doesn't seem too have that same effect as "I Love You" and no "Birthday Sex" might not have the same effect as" Turn your lights down low." Maybe music should go back to being more modest.

Unfortunately, the world is not modest and as the world turns so does the people. But maybe if we all just stand still- we could understand that what we're listening to is unconsciously making us lose the little love that we've had. Do you find yourself cussing more after you've listened to that Nikki Minaj mixtape? Do you down girls more after you've heard lil wayne out?
Where is that clean music that made your heart melt. The music that was relevent and that had meaning?
He said, "You're such a P.Y.T" not "You're Booty got Swagg". What does that say about us.

I hate to go back to Michael Jackson but I have to say, it has been so hard for me to listen to the radio because the music just seems like garbage more than it did last week. I guess because in the back of my mind I knew that there were people like Michael still around that were capable of making music that would drown this nonsense out but now that there isn't I just feel trapped in this whirlpool of hard beats and strange lyrics.

Is true music dying? I thank the artist out who are very different from the others and are faithful to making MUSIC and not just something that you could 'get low' to at a party.

A Moment in My Heart.

"If I could take the colors of the wind and paint you, I'd be creating life all over"
- Imani.

Does.

Does a heart deserve to be lonely?
Do these eyes deserve to cry constantly?

Should a great spirit feel unwanted and overlooked?
Walked over like a fresh patch of grass.
No one appreciates these hands, this smile, these eyes, these lips, these legs, these hips, these ears nor this nose
will they ever?

Or will I fade into the background while some somber music plays to my demise.
Will you care??

Muse:

I have two new articles up on bmorenews.com that you can read if you're interested. If you go soon you'll see it as soon as u enter the site. However, if u wait you could find it in the editorial section...

Muse= Inspiration.
you know what I do when I cant think, eat, sleep...listen to music. I know, I know to each his own but music is definately an inspiration and probably my greatest love. I some times ask myself why am I so scared to do something that I love the most? Idk. People tried to tell me- you don't like music as much as writing. They're more than wrong. A lot of times, I can only write if I listen to music. Therefore, I decided to put some of my favorite Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 songs on here to pay tribute to him and also to inspire me at the same time. I chose to play Human Nature first because I think it is the most calming and simple song that I have ever heard. He doesn't say much but in the essence of the song-he says a lot!

enjoy.

As I sign off my lingering question is ,what inspires you?

=0)

It frightens me that I haven't written an actual poem for quite a while so here goes something off the top.

Off The Wall.

we might stand tall-

we might even fall

but most of all

we lived off the wall

Fighting with actions

rebelling with pride

erasing all the tears that hid behind our eyes.

We saw the sun when no one else could

We created the rainbow

we lived life Off the Wall.

And when it seemed we were all alone

we kept on living

proving everyone wrong

all along-

we lived off the wall.

SMH.

Pardon me but I'm still in the process of mourning the loss of Michael Jackson. Ever since Friday, BET made it seem as if this AMAZING show was going to air and that the best tribute for MJ would occur. However, I did not. I am disappointed in the fact that Black Entertainment Television exemplifies being loud, black, ghetto and unorganized. I only hope that a bigger tribute will be properly conducted for Michael.

PS: All of the new BET shows that are about to premiere need to be lynched.

Gone to Soon: Michael Jackson.

Like A Comet
Blazing 'Cross The Evening Sky
Gone Too Soon
Like A Rainbow
Fading In The Twinkling Of An Eye
Gone Too Soon
Shiny And Sparkly
And Splendidly Bright
Here One DayGone One Night
Like The Loss Of Sunlight
On A Cloudy Afternoon
Gone Too Soon
Like A castle built Upon A Sandy Beach
Gone Too Soon
Like A Perfect Flower
That Is Just Beyond Your Reach
Gone Too Soon
Born To Amuse, To Inspire, To Delight
Here One Day
Gone One Night
Like A Sunset
Dying With The Rising Of The Moon
Gone Too Soon
Gone Too Soon
by Michael Jackson
If you know me well, you know that I loved Michael Jackson as if he were apart of my family. I never met him. I was never able to see him perform live but you better believe I had every album starting from "Diana Ross Presents:The Jackson Five". It hurts be to say that today we have lost another shining star. The sky never seemed so dim. I used to wish I lived in the 60's just so I could witness being in the era where the Jackson 5 ruled the world. I wished I could remember those times like my Mother. I couldn't physically be there but of course, I found my own way. My very first favorite song in my entire life was "You are not alone" by Michael Jackson and I truly believe that Michael is not alone because the world and all of his TRUE fans will carry him in their hearts.
I loved Michael so much that even when I was young, I would hate comedians for talking about him and get mad at my very own friends and family for criticizing him. Michael was Amazing-on and off stage. His lyrics were truthful, his spirit was warm and his heart was the most precious. Perhaps Michael is finally able to enjoy the peace that he has always deserved to have. I wondered to myself, How could I miss someone that I've never personally known? Well it's simple , I grew up to Michael- every single song. I searched the internet for every single interview. I can remember going to Motown.com to look at old Jackson Five footage. I made posters in honor of them. I was a MICHAEL JACKSON FAN and I will ALWAYS be.
It took me nearly all day to come on here and write this and it still hurts me to have to do this because I can't even believe that Michael is gone. I love him and miss him. I hope that the world can dwell in his great spirit and leave all the negativity that they have brought to Michael in the garbage where it belongs. Michael will never die. His legacy lives on FOREVER.

My life is just a bunch of...

I M A N I.

I never thought I was the smartest

the prettiest

the ugliest

the strongest

the luckiest

I always thought of myself as just average. Nothing MORE ,nothing less. And as I look back on it, I think that's kind of sad. I should have been thinking highly of myself over these past 18 years. But I wasn't and I think that maybe that's normal for humans to do- for the most part. Well I'm afraid that I got caught up in my negative thinking and began to make excuses for myself. I can't do that, I probably won't be good enough. But I can. I can do anything I put my mind too. Yes. It sounds cliche'. But cliche' and the 'truth' have a thin line separating them. I call myself a dreamer because ALL I do is dream. This was a good thing before but now that I'm older, I need to become the Achiever. I need to map out my dreams and follow them. I shouldn't just daydream and remind myself over and over all the things that I want to do. I need to shut up and DO IT. This proccess comes with the emotion of fear. Everyone is afraid of change or has been in one point of their life. So it is natural to feel this type of way. However, we can not avoid it. We have to accept the fact that we can not be teenagers forever. We can not sit back and be catered to like spoiled children. It's time for us to get in the dirt and plant our own seeds. Sooner or Later we will watch those seeds grow into buds and blossom into flowers that reflect our dreams and goals. But the first step is making that First Step. My first step is every tuesday at 10 am.

Welcome to the beginning of the rest of your life!

A rose that grew from concrete: Tupac Amaru Shakur

Tupac Amaru Shakur. I just found out that it was his birthday today through someone else's blog. I hate to be just like her and write something on him but it's in my spirit to do so. I just took out sometime reading one of my favorite poems by Tupac in his book "A rose that grew from concrete". The poem reads,

In the event of my demise

when my heart can beat no more

I hope I die for a principle

or a belief that I had lived for

I will die before my time

Because I feel the shadow's death

I have come to grips with the possibility

and wiped the last tear from my eyes

I loved all who were positive

In the event of my demise!

This poem means so much to because I can feel Tupac's passion in each word that he chose. I also feel that this poem was a warning to the world that he wouldn't be here much longer. He knew that his way of life was going to cause him to not live long. However, he stresses that he lived by all his morals and was able to achieve many of his goals before his death. What really sticks out to me about Tupac is that his morals at times crossed each other out, in my opinion. Tupac was intelligent. He was different from the rest in a sense that he was an intellectual and at the end of the day, he knew way more than the people he associated himself with. I think that he had so much anger built up inside of him that he had to find other ways to channel it. It was so weird to watch videos of Tupac and notice how he was so smart that he could be the President or the leader of his own revolution and yet the interview was held in a prison where Tupac was being held. It saddened me to see how such a dynamic person who knew all the right things, continued to do wrong . He said once or twice that it was a stage that people go through- the whole "gangster lifestyle"- and so I think that he thought that he would have more time to get out of this stage and do better for himself. I kind of related his situation to the present day rapper T.I. T.I raps about both a "thug life" but also writes songs that inspire his listeners. He also trys to help youth see that they should go down the road less traveled and make a difference in the world. However, he ends up in jail for violence. I've realized that it takes a while for people to change themselves- longer than it does to try to change someone else. I only pray that the time shortens. Also, we all know that Tupac moved to Baltimore in his teen years. Meaning he was my age while in Baltimore. Like I, he saw the things that I see today. It's ashame that within decades not much has changed. Tupac called Baltimore an "ignorance city". I mean it hurts to hear him say such things about my city but how can I prove him wrong? He's right-it is. Anywho he also stated that the high school he attended- Baltimore School for the Arts changed his life in ways of which he was introduced to different styles of music, drama and literature that he would have never learned or payed attention to at anyother school. At BSA he was shaped and cultured. So this proves that you can learn anywhere, weather it be in the finest city or the worst. It is all about your dedication to education and the betterment of yourself and these are the type of things that Tupac spoke about-being your own person and knowing exactly what you want out of life. I wish Tupac would have made better decisions and completely followed the words that he inspired me to live by.

Happy Birthday Tupac Amaru Shakur and Rest In Peace.
