I really enjoy listening to these particular artists because I sense feeling of authenticity in their work. Their music is pure and for the most part they convey a deeper message. If you ever come across a song or two by any one of these artists, I think you'll understand what I mean. Or maybe It's just me. I truly feel that I'm ahead of my time but apparently I was supposed to be this age in this year at this moment. Therefore, I continue to listen to the music of the past in away that I construct who I am today.

Back to Basics

I'm taking a break from writing this paper to make a statement.

As I approach my 19th Birthday on the 26th, I see an evolution. I see growth. I've been feeling myself mature and I didn't think it would feel this scary yet exciting. The other day I went to the beach. At night, I enjoyed the sound of the moving waters and the breeze of the crisp air that kissed my cheeks. It felt like a reassurance from God. Maya Angelou once said in a poem, "we will never be as important as the ocean," and she's absolutely right. As the warm sand weighed my feet down, I felt that it symbolized that I belong exactly where I am. Whatever that is going on in my life is supposed to happen.

Latoya Jackson 20/20 interview

Unfortunately, I missed the public airing of the Latoya Jackson interview with Barbara Walters. However my faithful buddy named YouTube had my back. Usually when I listen to Latoya I think to myself what is she talking about? But this time, I sensed a feeling of genuine emotions and the words of a sister who lost a younger brother, a friend and someone who she admired the most.

Hearing, Latoya's account of the Michael Jackson case and the family greiving process was very interesting. A lot of the things she said in regards to the reasons why Michael passed made lots of sense. If you ever get the chance, I think you should check this interview out because for once I can say I whole heartedly agree with Latoya.

THE WAIT IS OVER! UNFORTUNATELY THE "OFFICIAL" RELEASE OF JAY-Z'S 11TH ALBUM WAS NOT VERY EXCITING DESPITE THE AMAZING SHOW HE PUT ON AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN ( ONE OF THE NIGHTS I WISH I WAS STRANDED IN NYC).

THIS CD RELEASE DID NOT BLOW OUR MINDS BECAUSE WEEKS PRIOR TO SEPTEMBER 11TH THE WORLD HAD ALREADY ILLEGALY DOWNLOADED THE ALBUM. I MUST ADMIT I WAS GIVEN THE ALBUM EARLIER IN THE WEEK AND I ABSOLUTELY ADORE IT. I AM A FAN OF REVOLUTIONARY THEMED MUSIC AND INTELLECTUAL SONGS THAT MAKE STATEMENTS. JAY-Z GOES OFF ON THE BLUEPRINT 3 AND THANK HEAVENS BECAUSE IT IS TIME FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW THE TRUTH!

ONCE AGAIN I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING OVERBOARD IN HIS SONG "D.O.A" , WHEN I FIRST HEARD IT BECAUSE THE USE OF THE AUTO TUNE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 20 YEARS NOW SO HOW CAN WE PUT NEW ARTISTS DOWN FOR USING SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN A SUCCESS IN THE PAST. IN THAT CASE WE WOULD HAVE TO MAKE A DEATH OF THE SAMPLE SONGS AND DEATH OF SNAP MUSIC. SOME THINGS WILL NEVER END BECAUSE OF THE DIRECTION THE WORLD IS TAKING US.

I MUST SAY THAT HE DOES MAKE A POINT IN A SENSE THAT HE WANTS TO REVIVE TRUE HIP HOP AND PUT AN END TO THIS FAKE MUSIC THAT BRAINWASHES OUR MINDS 24/7. SADLY JAY, HIP HOP IS DEAD. I DO NOT THINK I HAVE HEARD A TRUE HIP HOP SONGS SINCE THE LATE 90'S/EARLY 00'S.

NOW WHAT WE ARE HEARING IS RAP MUSIC. RAP MEANING TALKING. TALKING MEANING SAYING GIBBERISH OFF A PASSED AROUND BEAT. PASSED AROUND BEAT MEANING THE REDUNDANT SNARE SOUND WE HEARD ON " A MILLI, DIVA, BREAK UP ETC. THEREFORE IF THIS RAP MUSIC MUST GO ON THEN WE NEED SOME REAL HIP HOP ARTISTS TO COME AND TAKE THE STAGE AS WELL. CAN WE ATLEAST COMPROMISE? THOSE WHO WANT THE KNOCK OFFS CAN HAVE THE ARTIFICIALS AND THOSE WHO WANT THE REAL THING CAN GET THE AUTHENTIC. FAIR ENOUGH?

I'VE BEEN FOLLOWING JAY-Z CLOSELY OFF AND ON EVER SINCE THE BLACK ALBUM. ON AMERICAN GANGSTER, I FELL IN LOVE WITH HIS STYLE ONCE AGAIN AND NOW I'M BACK AGAIN ON THE HOV TRAIN. ALL ABOARD. I AM VERY AWARE THAT PEOPLE HAVE THEIR OWN OPINIONS AND MIGHT BELIEVE THAT HIS CD IS POSSIBLY TRASH BUT IF JAY-Z'S ALBUM IS TRASH THEN WHAT DO YOU CALL 'DORROUGH,' 'PLIES,' AND THE MAINSTREAM WEEZY?'

NO DISRESPECT BUT REALLY -JUST ASK YOUR SELF THAT.

9/11

Yesterday, September 11, 2009 was a very important day. It was the day that the world woke up and realized that we as Americans, do not live in our own little bubble that isolates us from the rest of the world. Unfortunately millions of people suffered due to pure ignorance and malice. America continues to remember and grieve the loss of all of the 9/11 victims. However, the reality is that we are all victims because this tragic event has effected each and every one of our lives in some way. God Bless America. God Bless the World.

Day 3.

I moved into my new rented home in Hampton,Va with my roommates on Monday, August 31st, 2009. I must say I am very satisfied and pleased with everything. So far, so good. I didn't even cry when my parents left and that's something that I usually do lol because I'm such a family person. But anywho- I didn't cry and I most likely won't. I have grown a stronger liking for the city of Hampton, over the past 2 days because I was able to explore it a little more. School starts next Tuesday. I'm not really bouncing off the wall about that but that is the reason why I'm here.

I also want to shout out my man Trey Songz because I really appreciate the "Ready" album. He really scared me with his LOL =) single. Garbage like that shouldn't be included on such a cd but I guess he had to get commercial. However, I think the cd is great and his vocals has developed more. He's hitting a lot of more highnotes and using his falsetto. Great Job Trey. You've made me proud lol
