With my eyes glued to the stunning poster of Audrey Hepburn plastered on my bedroom wall, I immediately think ‘wow what a woman!’ Hepburn was one of a kind. She was a humble icon who even considered herself to have a “funny face” while others found her flawless. What truly stands out to me about Audrey Hepburn is her naturalness. She was never one to touch drugs or even have the desire. She was simply Audrey—the petite, radiant girl from next door. With the poise that she acquired after years of ballet training, Audrey worked her way in the graceful manner.
Audrey Hepburn was the type of actress that was able to forget it was her that was on the screen, and draw the audience into the character that she portrayed. That is a gift. From her raw, cockney speaking role as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady to her adventurous and imaginative role as Gabrielle Simpson in Paris When it Sizzles, Hepburn had the talent to create a place in each of our hearts.
Besides her enchanting acting talent, Hepburn is most known for her classic and timeless style. She has made fashions such as the chic black dress that can be found worn in her film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and the high waist Capri and long pants that she wears in Roman Holiday popular and wanted by every girl—young and old. Audrey Hepburn was the ultimate show stopper. Hepburn’s fashion style was inspired by designer, Hubert de Givenchy. Givenchy and Hepburn became lifelong friends and she declared him as her favorite designer after providing the jaw dropping gowns and dresses for her 1954 film, Sabrina. Givenchy proclaimed Hepburn his muse.
In an environment where several glamorous stars sit on their high horses, Hepburn remained selfless. She was extremely passionate about donating to UNICEF. Hepburn wanted to do all that she could to prevent the deaths of helpless children. She was able to travel to several different locations such as Turkey, South America, Sudan and Somalia to visit children in need and contribute to UNICEF. Hepburn dedicated her time and love to these needy children until the final days of her life in 1993.
“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” Such words can only be spoken by a woman of pure class and wisdom. Audrey Hepburn was the epitome of elegance and class. Exuberating child-like charm and filled with explosive energy, Audrey Hepburn has taught us to live life for its precious moments. She has showed us how to smile not only with our eyes but with our hearts. Her integrity is what made her one of the best. Hepburn did not fake her way to the top, nor did she lose herself in the midst of her success. Not only should we attempt to dress like Audrey Hepburn, but we all should imitate her grace and sophistication.
